At the conception of this venture (2012), I spoke with several potential investors about the possibility of funding the design and build of CareSpotlight.com. While they all liked the idea and agreed there is a need for the resource, they encouraged me to launch the site, attract users and generate revenue before they would consider an investment.
Because the completed vision for CareSpotlight.com is comprehensive, interactive, and user-friendly, it is costly to build. Additionally, there are legal and operating expenses to consider.
In speaking with trusted advisors and friends, there was overwhelming support for a crowdfunding initiative with the idea that we can reach people directly who might benefit from a resource of this magnitude. If enough people are able to contribute modest amounts, the result can be just as powerful as one or two large investments.
In addition, we believe that the mission of CareSpotlight, and our promise to deliver a high-quality and transparent product, outweighs the guarantee of a short-term return on investment sought by typical funding sources.
Over the last 20 years, I have been the primary advocate for several family members with various medical conditions, illnesses and special needs, that have required me to make difficult decisions regarding an array of care and service providers (outside of doctors and hospitals), including: long-term residential facilities, in-home health care, hospice, physical rehabilitation facilities, physical therapy, supported employment, transportation, recreation and respite, and legal and financial advisors.
I was, and continue to be, disappointed by the lack of online comprehensive care/service provider directories with consumer reviews focused on various populations and circumstances.
My love for family and overwhelming desire to access necessary information in order to make well-informed and confident decisions regarding their health, safety and overall well-being has been the inspiration for CareSpotlight.com.
However, I have continued working towards this goal because I know that I am not alone in this quest for information, and my hope is that by banding together, we can improve the lives of those in need of care and the lives of their families, loved ones and advocates.
All review sites are not created equal! We have been working tirelessly designing a unique resource that will connect everyone in need of the information and platform that we plan to provide. We do not want to limit access to only those who can afford an annual membership. We understand that many of the very people who need this tool are also facing difficult financial times due to declining health, an inability to generate income and mounting medical bills and associated costs.
People have asked me why CareSpotlight is not being funded by grants. We are not a nonprofit. The foundations and other potential sources of grant money support many of the same organizations that will be subject to public review via CareSpotlight.com. This inherent conflict of interest pushed us away from relying on traditional nonprofit funding. Our business structure ensures objectivity for our users, and this is imperative to our mission.
My professional background includes marketing, public relations, sales, and business development. Many years of experience - in various roles, for several organizations - have allowed me to define and feel confident in the model that I have constructed for the launch and development of CareSpotlight.com.
The CareSpotlight.com team and I truly appreciate your support more than words can express.
