Caregiver and Medical Care for Sam & Betty Fuller
Donation protected
Hello, this fundraiser is organized by a few lifelong friends. Our dear friend Sam Fuller of Huntersville, NC, has dementia from Parkinson's. Unfortunately, it is progressing and requires around the clock care. For years Sam was a part of the broadcasting and program syndication businesses in Chicago, Charlotte, Nashville and Atlanta. His career spanned 40+ years and touched many people along the way.
His wife Betty continues to be an amazing Angel of Mercy for him and helps him through every day and night with the tasks that we mostly regard as automatic in our own lives. Sammy fell not long ago, and as Betty attempted to get him back on his feet, she tore the rotator cuff in her shoulder and must have shoulder replacement surgery on June 7th. As you know, an extremely painful injury that will require a lengthy recovery period to heal.
Betty and her family have searched unsuccessfully for help with their circumstances. Meanwhile, the twice-a-week, often undependable in-home help she gets from County Social Services is about to expire. She has help from their adult children but not 24 hours a day as required. We must be that help.
The Fuller’s need us to step in and help with affording in-home care and day-to-day additional medical and other expenses required. We have all heard of these stories where a family can quickly exhaust all its social security income, savings, retirement funding and asset’s including their home, trying to take care of a family member with the nightmare of dementia. Add Parkinson’s to that for Sam.
This “GO FUND ME” account has been set up to allow all of us a way to contribute to the cost of the care for Sam and Betty’s needs. Please donate whatever amount you can, and either show your name and contribution on the account donor listings or remain anonymous. Your choice. Please ask your church or civic club to help.
For all the smiles, love and friendship Sam and Betty Fuller have added to so many lives, let’s let this be a way of saying “thank you and God Bless”.
Memories from a lifelong friend:
Over a period of 50+ years, there is no telling how many times Sam and I played golf. We never played for more than 25 cents per hole so that the most one could lose would be about $4 on your very worst golf day. So, the quarters went back and forth all that time, usually 75 cents-ish per round of golf max. Some of the quarters turned black in color from being handled so often and left in dark golf bags for years. Best I can estimate, Sam likely ended up with $1.75 of mine over those 50 years. Don’t think the contests were not intense. We played as if your children’s eyes depended on it. The theme of our games with characters like Gene Birke, Wayne Upchurch and Johnny & Hal Edwards playing was, “If you are not cheating, you are only cheating yourself.” Just thought you should know I am still miffed about the $1.75.
