Greetings everyone, my name is Darla.

My boyfriend and I recently took in (what we believe) is a small stray male Chihuahua that showed up on our front porch. Poor thing was limping but very friendly and full of energy. As we examined him closer, we realized he may have been hit and his genital area looked infected.

We made a post on Facebook hoping to find his owners, but have not received a response. So we took it upon ourselves to have him seen by a veterinarian.

The X-rays showed his right hind leg was broken in 3 sections below the knee! The vet managed to set the bones in place and applied a splint.

As for his genitalia, he has a unilateral cryptorchid, meaning one of his testicles failed to drop. This will require surgery in the future to find and remove, as it could become cancerous. Right now he is on pain medications and antibiotics for an infection.

We were given an option to have him euthanized, but we just couldn't find it in our hearts to do so. We ended up naming this cutie Zuko (as in Danny Zuko from "Grease") and thought he deserves a fighting chance at a happy life.

With the examination, X-rays, operation, medications, and other vet fees, it became a pricey visit. We managed to pay his bill in full; however, it has strained our monthly finances a bit. He is scheduled for multiple check-up appointments within the next few weeks, and we are unsure of the costs.

We thought long and hard on this decision to create this fundraiser. In our hearts, Zuko and our fur babies are precious and worth it! So we kindly ask for a slight donation or to sprinkle this post out into the universe, if you can. It doesn't matter if we reach our set goal, but every cent will go towards future vet bills until Zuko is well.
