On January 14th, Shannon and her disabled 2-year-old, Darcy, were in a horrible auto accident leaving physical therapy at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Pete. Her right foot was crushed, and their car was destroyed. Luckily, Darcy was left with only car seat abrasions and a new fear of car rides.
Shannon now faces multiple surgeries over the next year and at least 3 months of being unable to walk. She is the primary caretaker for Darcy, who also requires a wheelchair and is completely immobile and nonverbal. Her husband, James, has lost work trying to care for them both while they struggle to find a home health nurse for Darcy.
The ambulance and hospital bills have already started to arrive. A ramp to the home had to be constructed. The home has to be modified for 2 wheelchair users now.
Any help at all would mean the world to this family as they try to survive and overcome this ordeal.
