Santana Guerra recently learned of the passing of their mother in California. In January of this year, she was given six months to one year to live and has been in hospice care. Her passing happened significantly sooner than expected. Santana, a graduate student at Princeton University in Anthropology and a member of our community with children at Community Park School, is absolutely devastated. They are also beset with a series of unanticipated expenses.
Shanna Ann Guerra passed on April 5, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on April 18, 1955, in Bakersfield, Shanna lived in Sacramento, California.
As professors, we care deeply for our students, in and outside of the classroom. To help Santana grieve without worrying about finances, I am soliciting funds, along with Jerry Zee, one of their doctoral advisors, to help Santana and their family weather this tragedy.
Santana supports a lovely family in student housing on their graduate stipend. The costs associated with planning and travel will be more than their already stretched-thin stipend can reach. We seek funds to help them cover airfare to California, childcare during planning processes and meetings, funeral clothing for Santana and family, as well as other incidentals related to the process of taking care of Shanna's affairs.
