Care for Kayla Medical Fundraiser

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Jamie Bodine. I am here today asking for whatever small or large donation can be given to help my great friends as they navigate their daughters very unexpected diagnoses with Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Kayla has always been a sweet, bubbly and mighty energetic little lady, until earlier this month she suddenly seemed unwell. Initially mild symptoms suddenly left her unable to walk and crying in agony.

Kayla's mom took her to the ER on September 8th 2022, where it was initially believed she may have a concussion. She was sent home where she continued to develop worsening symptoms. A second visit to another ER left them leaning towards Lymes disease. Finally, Kayla's pediatrician suggested a trip to CHOP, where again they believed it could be Lymes Disease and sent her home after treating symptoms and giving antibiotics. Unfortunately, they still had not seen the worse of her condition.

On Thursday September 15th Kayla was again brought to CHOP. Kayla had now been barely able to move her arms or head and was crying of pain all over her body and was unable to walk. This time Kayla had to be admitted in the PICU unit where she was sedated and underwent a spinal tap and MRI evaluation. This testing showed that Kayla had something known as Guillain-Barré syndrome, which is a rare condition. You can learn more about this condition here:

I am asking for any help to assist my amazing friends as their sweet 4 year old will be spending the next two to three weeks in the hospital, followed by extensive therapy to help Kayla regain function of her lower body. During this time they will face not only medical expenses, but also travel expenses as they travel regularly in and out of the city an hour away, as they also have a teenage son being cared for by his grandparents during this trying time. They have already lost wages and will continue to do so throughout Kayla's journey to recovery. Anything we can do to ease their concerns in this time, I am certain will be very well received and much appreciated.

A MESSAGE FROM MOM:

I guess we can just start off saying our world of a family of four was completely turned upside down in a matter of a week and now our bright, happy beautiful toddler is going to be fighting for months to get back to herself.
Our little spunky, sassy, feisty, insanely smart, beautiful baby girl is so strong and brave having to go through all that she has endured already.
This is a child that is constantly on the go, and very energetic. But now she's completely bed ridden. She had tested positive for rhino virus as well as Guillain-Barrè Syndrome just a couple days ago, after being in and out of multiple hospitals for a week with no answers or different diagnoses that wasn’t getting any better, just leaving her in more pain and less mobile to the point where she couldn’t even walk on her feet.
She is currently on a breathing tube and partially sedated. She has to get 5 placebo/blood treatments over the course of the next week in hopes of repairing all the bad blood in her body. After that they will start testing her mobility. Her estimated time in the hospital is 2-3 weeks. But will need extensive physical therapy to get her lower body movements back.
During this time we have to travel back and forth from the hospital in PA to our home in NJ to also tend to our older son who is with his grandparents right now when the both of us are at the hospital. So we can all imagine the costs that’s already starting to arise for food and travel, let alone the medical bills that will start piling up.
I absolutely hate asking for major help but I know right now we are going to need as much help/support as we can as this is the most traumatic experience we’ve had to endure.
