Hello, we are the Bocanegra family. We wanted to inform you about our dog, Jasper. Jasper is the sweetest boy we could ever ask for. He is a Bernedoodle and only 7 years old. Not only is Jasper a beloved member of our family, but he is also a certified therapy dog. He goes on visits to help kids who are struggling to read, and they can read to him. He also visits hospitals, people in memory care/assisted living, and the airport to comfort people. As a crisis response dog, he was able to visit first responders and families of the Kerrville flooding this summer and de-stress college students during finals. He does a lot more too; he is just a blessing to the world.
Unfortunately, on Monday, March 2nd, he fell in the truck on his way to a visit, slipped on his bed, and hit his belly. He instantly curled up and wouldn’t walk or wag his tail, and we could tell something was wrong. We took him to the vet, and they did x-rays on him and gave him pills. But out of nowhere, he started to pee blood. We instantly got scared and wondered what was wrong. The vet told us we should take him to the emergency vet hospital. It was so hard dropping off my baby, but I knew he was gonna be in good hands. He had to stay the night there, and we thought he would be all good to come home with us the next day. But no, we went and visited him, but they were still concerned, so they wanted him to stay another night just to watch over him. It was so sad to see him; he wasn’t even wagging his tail, he wouldn’t pee, and he was barely eating. The Jasper I know would have eaten all of it in an instant. They told us his bladder looked all good and that the fluid in his belly would just reabsorb, so we were happy for the news. They said probably no surgery, thank God.
Today, however, Wednesday, March 4th, he’s been there 2 nights, and we were sure that he would be able to come home today. They said he was doing so much better. Unfortunately, at around 5 am today, we were woken up to a call from the vet. We thought he was ready to come home. Unfortunately, they told us he was doing worse and that he had more fluid in his belly. They then went on to say that he will probably need surgery to close it back up.
I love my baby Jasper so much, and I hate to see him like this. I ask myself why him, someone who brings so much joy to other people. I hate seeing him in pain, and it hurts me so much. His little sister Juni is also worrying and wondering why he isn’t home yet to play. Anything will help us get through this tough time, especially prayers. We will update y’all when we hear more. Thank y'all so much ❤️❤️
