Our family is facing an unimaginable situation. Many of you know my parents and their love for travel. They recently departed Colorado, excited to embark on an adventure landing them in Missouri to spend Christmas with our Grandpa. Late Saturday afternoon in New Mexico, our parents and their dog Pebbles were violently struck by a drunk driver. The impact was so severe that our father suffered multiple broken bones and had to be airlifted to a trauma center for emergency surgery. Our mother was taken by ambulance to a different hospital for urgent treatment and extensive testing.
Both of them are currently stable, but the road ahead is long. While Darlene has been recently released, she will be bedridden for several more days at a local hotel. Glenn will continue to be in the ICU until he improves and will likely be moved to a rehab facility. Being out of town and facing this traumatic situation is definitely an added layer of complexity for all. Our parents are facing:
• Major surgeries and ongoing medical care
• Physical rehabilitation
• Loss of income during recovery
• Extensive travel for hospital visits and future rehab.
This accident was completely unexpected and has turned their lives — and ours — upside down. We rushed to New Mexico immediately and will be staying by their sides during recovery. We are asking for help to cover:
• Medical expenses not covered by insurance
• Travel and lodging for family support
• Rehabilitation and recovery equipment that must happen in New Mexico out of Kaisers network.
• Household bills during recovery
• Lost wages while they heal
So many wonderful friends and family have reached out asking how they can help. We started this page by request but also agree this could help alleviate added stress for them. Any donation — big or small — truly makes a difference. We know it’s the holiday season and finances are tight. We are beyond grateful for every prayer, message, and ounce of support.
Thank you for helping our family through this difficult chapter
Happy Holidays
