Care for Dan JC virus PML
Donation protected

While working as artists in Las Vegas in July 2018, partners Daniel Tibbits & John Pomeroy started noticing that Dan inexplicably began stumbling while walking. Soon after, his speech started to become garbled & then his handwriting became illegible. Back in Florida they met with Neurologists & had myriad bloodtests, 3 MRIs & spinal tap, 4 two day trips to Gainesville & eventually having a biopsy there at Shands Hostpital. Final diagnosis came Sept 16th when they learned Dan has a rare virus attacking the base of his brain called JC virus PML. There is no known treatment other than building up his immune system as much as possible to fight off the virus.
By that time Dan had rapidly declined to the point where he needs constant supervision & home care from John. He cannot drive, work, cook or do anything other than sit in a chair all day & watch TV. His speech is very hard to understand. Thankfully, his mind seems to be thinking clearly. Neither Dan nor John(caregiver) has been able to work since July & they have depleted their savings & IRAs & run up credit cards while searching for a treatment. Thanks to the method of rebuilding his immune system prescribed by his Doctor at Shands, he seems to be at a point now where he is not declining further. Whether he will regain his ability to walk & talk or write remains unknown. Now they need to hire a caregiver to be with Dan while John makes an income for the both of them & pay bills.
