Care For Cordell
Donation protected
I am starting this fundraiser to raise money for a very loved young man named Cordell Curtis. Cordell was diagnosed with autism at three when his mother required an emergency cesarean delivery. Cordell was positioned incorrectly, causing him to go without oxygen to the brain. Later, with the love and guidance of his caretaker and grandmother, Cordell has grown to become a very kindhearted young man. His smile spreads to all those around him, bringing laughter with his notorious “knock-knock’ jokes.
Unfortunately, Cordell has undergone a significant loss recently. This past year Cordell lost a beloved teacher to Covid-19. Cordell met his teacher Tom four years ago when he excelled at the Anne Bremer Education Center (ABEC) after spending the previous four years at the North Education Center (NEC) in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Cordell had developed a strong relationship with Tom throughout those four years. Tom truly helped Cordell grow comfortably into becoming a young man. When Cordell heard about the loss of his teacher, he had a hard time wanting to attend ABEC. Not only was it difficult to process such a loss and to the pandemic, but Cordell’s educational career was also forever changed. A few months later, with love from family and staff at AVEC, Cordell began to enjoy school once again.
Just as Cordell settled into his new routine and found new constants, Cordell unexpectedly lost his grandmother Pamela Curtis in the home on Thursday, January 20th, 2022. Cordell’s grandmother was not only his primary caretaker, but they were partners in crime. Cordell has lived with his grandmother since he was an infant, and they both shared an inseparable bond. Outside of Cordell being at school, they were always together. Cordell is still in the beginning stages of processing this significant loss. Pamela was the “glue” of the family, and as the whole family tries to heal, I wish to help alleviate the financial burden of losing a loved one. The family needs these funds in assisting Cordell not only to lay his grandmother to rest but the transition for Cordell’s Care and future.
