Our mother, the sweetest soul that you could ever meet-Caren Curti was unfortunately given the crippling news last week that she has cancer. If that isn’t scary enough, imagine being her and being misdiagnosed two years ago, thinking it was something else the WHOLE time. For two years, everyone around her witnessed my mother living in excruciating pain. She has lived with cancer for two years...thinking it was something different...never complaining. If that doesn’t show how strong she is, we don’t know what does. We are all praying that her misdiagnosis didn’t make her condition worse.
The C-word -cancer- has the ability to stop anyone in their tracks. It gives our family chills knowing the huge fight ahead of her.
My mom brought four children into this world and has two grand babies. After my mother was diagnosed with cancer she went home and expressed her concerns to me. I watched my mother crying inconsolably while saying the words “I’m not scared of dying. I’m scared of not being with you kids. I don’t want to leave you. I want to see Sabrina and Mason grow up and I want to watch all of you get married and live your lives.” This broke my entire heart because my mother is only 54 and is the most caring, selfless person that honestly deserves the world. And I need her to be here until I become successful so I can take care of her and give her what she deserves. Because her whole life, she stayed home and raised my siblings and I, unpaid, and made us a home until our parents got divorced and now she lives alone paycheck to paycheck, just getting by.
I mean at face value, she got married, had children, became a grandma. But there's so much more to life. We think about the fact that there's an entire globe that she's never seen. When a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, you can't consume yourself with death.. but you understand that eventually it could come. We don't want to see our beautiful mother in pain and we especially don't need her worried about finances.
The money will be spent helping to pay her rent during her recovery from her upcoming surgery. Recovery could be 6 months depending on the extent of her surgery. The money will buy her groceries, put gas in her car to get to and from medical appointments, it will pay her phone bill so that she can speak with her oncologist.
This disease WON'T diminish her will to fight. Our mom would give the shirt off her back.
