Care for Abandoned Parents in India
Donation protected
"A mother's love is Eternal - Maa, I miss you with every beat of my heart."
In a quest to find solace grieving the biggest loss of my life, I stumbled upon India's secret shame-elders abandoned by Childrens
A quick visit to sponsor a day meal at an old age orphanage led me to spend the entire day at Sri Karthikeya Foundation old age orphanage. It was a rewarding and grounding day spent speaking with abandoned elders and learning a little more about them. Many were found on streets. Some were boarded on trains, deserted in hospitals, dumped at temples, or left at doorsteps of orphanages/destitutes and were left to their fate for being sick, outliving paychecks, or simply growing too old to be cared for. That night I cried repeatedly, recollecting their innocent smiles, the heart-wrenching conversations, their naive desire of going back to their home, and their secret prayers for their children's change of heart.
Being a caretaker of my elder parents, I could not comprehend what it took Mrs. Lakshmi Ji from Sri Karthikeya Foundation to care for so many abandoned elderly parents, mostly elderly women, whom she lovingly refers as "Maa" (mother). Her deep compassion and unconditional care for abandoned mothers is astounding, which made me realize my duty to care for parents did not come to an end with the passing of my beloved mother, instead it nudged me to continue to care for other parents who don't have 'Sandhya' in their life.
YES, there will be many more abandoned elders, YES, many more orphanages will mushroom in big cities, YES, just a few of us won't be able to change the world to make it a better place for all elders, however, we CAN, together do our part and our best.
With a humble heart, I request you all to honor my beloved mother in heaven and also your elderly parents or elder family members on earth by making a donation to care for abandoned parents who call an old age home their last home.
All your generous donations will be rounded up/matched by the Patangay family for the lifetime care of elderly parents living at Sri Karthikeya Old Age Foundation (Hyderabad, India).
