We are coming to you with heavy hearts to ask for emergency support for our 99-year-old Aunt Remy, following the sudden and tragic passing of her only child, our beloved cousin Christine.

Aunt Remy is currently on hospice and has been bedridden since the pandemic. At 99 years old, she is no longer physically, mentally, or financially capable of caring for herself and requires round-the-clock, 24-hour care from dedicated health workers.

For years, her daughter Christine was her primary support system and caregiver. Christine was unmarried and had no children of her own; so much of her focus was ensuring her mother was safe, loved, and comfortable in her final years. Christine handled the logistics, paying the bills and quietly supplementing Aunt Remy’s care costs with her own personal funds to ensure her mother had the 24/7 support she desperately needed.

Tragically, we just lost Christine. Our family is devastated by her passing, and on top of our grief, we are now facing an immediate financial and logistical crisis.

As her cousins, we are stepping in to manage everything, but we have hit a massive roadblock. Since we do not have access to any of their financial accounts, we do not know if there are funds that we can tap into, and currently the accounts are frozen and tied up in the estate process. Navigating the legal system to gain access to these accounts is going to take time and the help of lawyers—time that Aunt Remy’s daily care needs simply do not afford us.

Right now, we are pooling our own resources, but we cannot cover these mounting costs alone. We urgently need help bridging this financial gap while the legal process plays out.

How your donation will be used:

• Honoring Christine: Covering the immediate costs of Christine’s memorial and end-of-life services to give her the dignified farewell she deserves.

• Aunt Remy’s 24/7 Care: Paying the wages of Aunt Remy's 24-hour healthcare workers so she can remain comfortable and safe on hospice without any interruption to her care.

• Legal Fees: Assisting with the immediate retainer fees for attorneys so we can properly access the accounts and secure Aunt Remy's long-term care.

Christine gave so much of herself to take care of her mother. Now, it is our turn to step up for them both.
