On May 28, Damien “Bubba” was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with liver cancer. Since that day, he and his family have been facing one of the hardest and most uncertain times of their lives.

For the past several months, Damien has been fighting through this diagnosis, and unfortunately, many of his appointments, tests, and updates from his doctors have brought more difficult news. On top of everything he is going through physically and emotionally, he has been unable to work, creating a tremendous financial burden for him and his family.

This diagnosis has also taken Damien away from a big part of who he is. Bubba has always loved Jiu-Jitsu and living an active lifestyle. Training, staying active, and doing something he genuinely enjoys have always been important to him. Since becoming sick, all of that has come to a halt. Going from being active and doing something he loves to having his days filled with appointments, tests, treatments, and uncertainty has been another difficult adjustment during an already overwhelming time.

Most importantly, Damien is a father to two children, ages 10 and 13. At a time when his focus should be on being present for his children and enjoying these important years with them, he is instead facing a serious health battle and all of the uncertainty that comes with it. His children and family are walking through this alongside him, and the added financial stress has made an already heartbreaking situation even more difficult.

As Damien continues to focus on his health and treatment, medical expenses, household bills, and everyday living costs continue to add up. No family should have to worry about how they are going to make ends meet while also fighting something as serious as cancer.

To those who know Bubba, you know how much his family and children mean to him. He has always been someone who shows up for the people he loves, and now we are hoping to come together and show up for him when he needs us most.
