Dede Martinez had been dealing with knee pain for some time. When the pain became unbearable in her hip, she went to the ER seeking relief—and instead received life-altering news. Doctors discovered that the top of her femur bone had been crushed, pushing through the hip socket and cracking the bone.

A trauma surgeon immediately created a two-surgery plan to restore her mobility. Dede underwent hip surgery #1 on November 23rd at the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she remained for nearly two weeks. She was then transferred to a skilled nursing facility to begin rehabilitation.

Now Dede is facing an urgent financial challenge. Her insurance no longer covers the full cost of care, and she must pay significant out-of-pocket expenses to continue receiving the support she needs. In February, Dede will undergo surgery #2—a total hip replacement—followed by another hospital stay and ongoing recovery. She hopes to return home with continuous care.

The total cost of medical bills, rehabilitation, and home care is estimated at $20,000.
