Care 4 Osa

Donation protected
Osa is in desperate need of community support to aid in her healing through significant illness that is causing increasingly high levels of pain and physical decline.

She needs basic access to food, medicine, and veterinary care. She was seen by a new veterinarian on the Long Beach Peninsula at the end of April 2024 to establish care and assess her rapid health decline. The pain was so high during that appointment that the Vet was unable to touch or move towards her without her wincing/withdrawing away. At that time the condition of her skin was poor but has since declined even more. In 2023 she developed a growth in the corner of her eye that the Vet visually assessed as non-urgent/benign and priced removal at ($4000), suggested monitoring for signs of pain or impacts on eyesight.

Osas health showed sever decline when we began traveling in February of 2024. The tumour on her eye began bleeding constantly and she/we struggled to walk up the 3 flights of stairs at the apartment complex we were staying at with a dear friend. Her bowel movements were loose and through the night for the first couple weeks of our stay. She walked at a snails pace requiring verbal encouragement often. Her appetite was non-existent and I did my best to figure out how to get her to eat. She responded/improved once I began feeding her cans of soft food that were composed of salmon/sweet potato. She appeared to be at an end of life transition period which was one of the main reasons I decided to travel with her out to the Ocean, it’s her happy place. If she was going to pass into the infinite beyond it would be by the Sea.

It wasn’t until we made our way to a goat farm, doing a special work-trade while living in a borrowed tent, that I saw her begin to spring back to life. She responded positively to adding goat yogurt to her dry food but was still struggling to eat consistently. I began making her homemade crockpot salmon/sweet potato/rosemary food and it allowed her to begin eating with joy and eagerness. While on the farm her ability to walk longer distances improved and her puppy play vibes increased.

After staying on the farm in a tent for about a month we then moved locations to engage in an Artist Residency at a Historic Vintage RV & Lodge on the Peninsula. We had my custom built 5x8 micro home brought down from the Olympic Peninsula where it had been awaiting a secure place to land. During this time the sores on her skin started to slowly increase in quantity and size. Her stamina decreased again and her walking pace slowed while her visible physical pain increased. I was able to get her established at a Veterinarian one-block away from our location to assess care needs and possibly determine root causes for her increased illness. During the initial appointment the doctor suggested Osa limit all neck movement and begin anti-inflammation meds. The options presented were for a biopsy of the growth on her neck and/or sedated imaging of the neck area to assess for injury/illness. Due to lack of income I was only able to begin medication which was donated by the Clinic. It was at this time that we returned to the goat farm with our micro home, praying for healing vibes to return. The medicine helped somewhat and we increased her dosage about two weeks ago due to her continued signs of pain/physical distress.

Most recently her sores have begun to bleed, including the tumor on her eye. Therefore I decided to borrow money in order to have a biopsy done. The results were somewhat encouraging in that the Vet assessed the sores as benign non-cancerous (acknowledging that tumours and skin conditions can change and must be monitored). Medical ointment was perscribed and I’ve begun using that daily on the multiple areas. She will begin taking antibiotics to deter from the open sores causing possible infections. If I am able to raise funds for sedated imaging of her neck that will be the next medical step for her care. The most important financial need she currently has is for basic food, homemade salmon/sweet potato/carrot/rosemary mix. She needs a consistent dry food brand to be purchased so that her tummy is not forced to adjust each time I make it to a (different) grocery store. I do not currently have a drivers license due to my cognitive disability and therefore must adjust food brands dependent upon fluctuating ride availability/store locations. I intend to use the fundraiser money to repay the kind person that offered to cover her vet bills and even picked up her most recent medicine from the Vet on our behalf. All of the fund raised money will go towards Osas care needs and will aid in providing her the most holistic support as she navigates the unknown of chronic illness.

Donating $5 will make a world of difference and I’ll be sure to tell Osa about each person who donates. I continue to remind her of all her past friends & families that have and continue to love and care for her no matter the distance.

I currently have no access to income other than State issued food stamps and have had a request for financial support through State Disability since 2023. I’ve been on an approved medical leave from Graduate School since June of 2022 due to losing the cognitive ability to read or write at an academic or basic level ~ I also became significantly physically disabled alongside the cognitive decline which resulted in the medical leave ~ and have since survived getting COVID in the Summer of 2022 and the Winter of 2023.

Osa and I have experienced the miracle of persevering through treacherous health conditions and are now slowly recovering, we can feel the light at the end of the tunnel. It is a miracle that I’ve recovered the cognitive strength to create this gofundme and I’ve witnessed Osa healing through the roller coaster of her chronic illnesses. Come what may, I pray she has sweet rest, play, and peace as we strive to heal and grow. We could not heal/thrive in isolation (we tried, it didn’t work) and are calling on our beloved community to send love of all kinds ~ including comments or letters reminding Osa that she is a beacon of love and connection to our more than human world.

May peace and love be upon yallz,
