Joy is a pillar at Cardozo. It’s one of the reasons why students and staff get up and come to school on time. And what is more joyful than “kicking it with your friends”. Soccer serves as a great unifier at Cardozo. Students communicate on the soccer field without even speaking the same language.

Alexis Vigil is the Restorative Practices Coordinator at Cardozo Education Campus. Otis Pitney has been a coach of the Girls and Boys High School Soccer teams at Cardozo for the last 4 years. Ryan Canney is Executive Director of ThruSports, a new organization aimed at organizing sports fans for progressive social change and fostering the development of local community building through sports.

Together we are raising money to support the high school soccer program at Cardozo Education Campus so that our students can have excellent coaching and mentorship, the proper equipment to play the beautiful game they love, and funds to support team-building and leadership development workshops. Throughout everything we do we are dedicated to building local connections, community, and spreading joy through soccer.

It has been said that the best indicator of success in a young person's life is a consistent adult. DC Native Juan Sevilla is the Head Coach of the Cardozo Boys Team. When he is not coaching he is spending with his children, Bella and Nathaniel. Zulia Menjivar, a PG County resident, former player for the El Salvador national team, is the Head Coach of the Cardozo Girls' Team. Alexis and Otis are assistant coaches.

Cardozo EC is a Title 1 school, which means that more than 35% of our students live at or below the poverty line. At Cardozo, approximately 70% of the students are economically disadvantaged. Our families do the best to provide the basics and our school helps with a monthly food bank and health services provided by Unity Health in our school clinic.

In order to expand what's possible at Cardozo, we humbly ask for your support in equipping our athletes, providing them with safe and healthy after-school activities, and surrounding them with the best coaches/mentors.
