Cardio Campaign for Chef Doug
Donation protected
On New Year's Day, while visiting family in Belleville, my cousin, Dougie (Executive Chef Douglas G. Hope) suffered a cardiac arrest-his heart stopped beating.
Fortunately, his partner, Tina Bastas quickly began CPR while awaiting the paramedic's arrival. Tina and the paramedics were able to restart his heart and Dougie was transported to Belleville General Hospital's ICU. Dougie was sedated into a coma to allow his brain and heart to recover.
Once Dougie was stable, he was transported to Kingston General Hospital for an angiogram. It revealed the 3 stents inserted into Dougie's arteries 8 years ago in Miami, Florida, had all collapsed. Open heart surgery for a triple by-pass around these collapsed stents was scheduled for today, Monday, January 14 at 7:15 am.
Dougie's culinary adventure began with the Hospitality Management Program at Sir Sandford Fleming in Peterborough then continued with the Culinary Arts Program at SAIT in Calgary. He has worked with 2 cruise ship lines and in numerous countries at such notable establishments as Anton Mosimann of London, Canoe in Toronto, Conrad Hotels, Windows on The World, Hilton and Elmhirst Resort of the Kawarthas. For 5 years, Dougie also had his own restaurant, The Green Man near Adelaide, Australia.
In 2012 Doug fulfilled a dream of opening a 'farm to table' restaurant. He purchased a 12 acre piece of property in Warkworth and with his creativity and hard work, he turned the barren property into a flourishing farm. He then opened a restaurant in downtown Warkworth called Sper. https://www.facebook.com/sperfoodfarm/
Sper provides a unique and truly fabulous farm to table restaurant experience.
Sper has been closed temporarily since Dougie's cardiac arrest and will be closed for an undetermined amount of time during his recovery and recuperation.
I am raising funds for Dougie and Tina to help them with their ongoing farm and house expenses until they are able to re-open their restaurant.
Any donation amount will help and will be greatly appreciated.
