Family, Friends, Neighbors-
My mom has had a crazy year and we would appreciate it if you heard her story.
On July 28th, 2024, Cara suffered a devastating stroke that changed her life completely. Since that day, she has endured 12 surgeries, including a thrombectomy to remove a clot from her brain. Complications from the procedure led to a second stroke and a large hematoma in her right groin, which has been a constant battle for healing. Because of her prolonged hospitalization from July through October, she lost her mobility, making recovery even harder.
Cara’s journey has been filled with setbacks—moving between multiple rehab facilities due to persistent bleeding, receiving multiple blood transfusions, and facing insurance roadblocks that have made getting the care she needs a struggle. Her most recent surgery, a Watchman device, was a major step forward, helping control her bleeding. But now, she’s home—not because she’s ready, but because insurance deemed her as at “baseline,” which we cannot accept. Medicaid was also denied due to the COA never answering phone calls and a crappy social worker.
For these coming months, we want to keep Cara home, but she needs 24/7 care. Yet with mounting medical bills, the cost of respite care, and additional at-home supplies, the financial burden is overwhelming. Getting her a reliable caregiver who is professional and able to help her get back on her feet will make huge strides in Cara’s recovery.
Cara is an amazing mother, friend, and fighter. She has been through more than most could imagine, and she deserves the best chance at walking again and regaining her independence. If you can, please consider donating—every little bit helps. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this with others would mean the world to us.
Thank you for your kindness, love, and support. Let’s help get Cara back on her feet!
With gratitude,
Carly
