Hello family, friends and fellow warriors,
I’m Cara Light and I was diagnosed with invasive and aggressive breast cancer on September 16, 2022. I found a lump in my right breast in August and after 3D imaging, ultrasound and a biopsy I received the call from my doctor that completely changed the path of my life. I will never forget that day, my heart racing, the lump in my throat, my hands shaking, then hearing his voice say “I have your pathology results and I’m sorry to say that it’s bad news…it’s breast cancer.” Ever since, I feel like I’ve been on a rollercoaster. Highs and lows. Great days and horrible days. My strong faith and my amazing support group are my pillars right now. I also know that I’m not alone in this fight and journey. I have already come across so many beautiful and strong souls that are survivors as well as current fighters and every story and word of encouragement fills me with hope.
Since my cancer is aggressive, I had to complete 6 rounds of chemo before my surgery. My 1st round of chemo was November 17th and my 6th round was on March 2nd. I’ll still have to go in every 21 days for the next year for 2 of my meds. My genetic testing results showed that I carry a gene that puts me at a high risk for breast cancer and colorectal cancer. Prior to my genetic testing I had some options for surgery, but now I’ll have a double mastectomy. My surgery was April 24th. I’m still recuperating, but all is well☺️
My pathology reports all came back free & clear of breast cancer!!!!
I know that all the support & prayers I’ve received have been a big part of my healing.
Anyone that knows me, knows I am a giver. If I have a dollar, you have a dollar. You need me there, I’m there. I am never one to ask for help or assistance, but during this journey I’m learning very quickly that I can no longer be that person that is afraid to ask for help. And that in itself is something very new to me and I battle with it daily. I’m starting to see large amounts of medical bills come in and although I do have health insurance, my out-of-pocket amounts are becoming overwhelming.
I’m starting this GoFundMe to assist with medical expenses. You may donate here, Venmo (@Cara-Light) or CashApp ($CaraLPhotog).
Thank you all in advance for blessing me with your love and support! Feel free to share this page and send your messages of hope in the comments below. I thank you for being with me on this journey and know that I’ll come back from this stronger! #caramiastrong
