Car Totaled During PCS — Savings Drained

Our friend, along with her 4 children, recently drove to Rhode Island to pick up her spouse from Navy OCS. What was supposed to be a simple trip turned into a stressful and costly situation when the government shutdown delayed his orders, and with-held reimbursement for their PCS, and his TDY travel. They were forced to stay in the area longer than expected, no orders mean no release of housing for them. Because Rhode Island is a high-cost location, their Airbnb expenses added up quickly.
Once the shutdown ended and they finally received their orders, they began driving toward their new duty station. But on the highway, while at a complete stop, they were rear-ended. Thankfully everyone, including their fur babies, are safe. Unfortunately, their only car was totaled in the crash.
Insurance is covering a rental car, but they suffered another unexpected loss; many of his newly purchased Navy uniforms were in the trunk and were destroyed in the accident. These uniforms are expensive to replace.
To make things even harder, they have not received any of their TDY or PCS (travel and moving) reimbursements yet, so they’ve had to pay everything out of pocket. Between extended lodging costs, the sudden accident, replacing uniforms, and fronting all travel expenses, all moving expenses, their savings are being drained much faster than they could have ever prepared for.
This family has stayed strong through everything that’s been thrown at them, but right now they truly need support. Any donation big or small, will help them cover lodging, transportation, uniform replacement, and travel expenses until the Navy processes their reimbursements.
Thank you so much for showing love and support during these tough times.
Even sharing this link helps more than you know.
If you can donate, even a few dollars, it will go toward:
Temporary lodging
Replacing uniforms lost in the accident
Food and travel expenses
Getting back on their feet while the Navy processes reimbursements
No family should have to go through this alone.
