CAR T Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
Last spring my father, Jeff van der Eems, was diagnosed with advanced diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (an aggressive form of cancer.) After pursuing intense rounds of invasive biopsies and chemotherapy treatment, he had successfully gone into remission. However, to the ineffable dismay of our family, the cancer returned in November 2017, unfortunately more unrelenting than previously. It has reached the point where his body will not let him stay in remission and we search for more extreme treatments, as chemotherapy becomes ineffectual.
There is only one immediate course of action left: CAR T (or immunotherapy.) Unfortunately, CAR T is still in clinical trials in the UK and the process of signing up for an appointment is arduous and more often than not futile. Furthermore, with their first available appointment being in July, CAR T in the UK was quickly ruled out as an option.
Luckily, CAR T is an approved practice in the U.S, and with much work my mother was quickly able to secure an appointment. However, being primary residents of the UK our family does not have US insurance and the cost of CAR T is beyond any of our expectations. The goal I have set on this page is nowhere near to the cost of the full procedure, but as a last hope we are left with no other choice.
My bother and I want to help fund the cost of his procedure. By donating you would be sincerely helping out a family who loves their father very much and cannot imagine a future without him. I do not expect to reach the target set, but every donation given would be met with deep gratitude and gives our family hope for the future.
Thank you!
Alida van der Eems
