Today was the day when a seemingly routine property maintenance task turned into a four alarm fire and resulted in a major loss financially for our family.
While we were having a dead and hazardous tree removed from our yard today, an accident occurred, a tree branch was dropped on the main power line, the live wire fell onto my car, the car caught fire and exploded, and burned for about a half an hour before the fire department arrived.
They managed to contain the fire before it spread to the house, but not before melting our power and cable boxes, and charring the outer wall and gutter work. The car (our family’s only real *reliable* transportation) is a total loss, and I’m going to likely be out of work at least until Monday due to timing on getting a new cable box installed.
While the contractor is liable for his actions, there are going to be some immediate and hefty expenses that come out of this, mainly the deductibles for both home and auto insurance to process claims and then fight the legal battle on my behalf, the loss of at least four days of work plus OT I’m generally counting on to make ends meet, and the fact that I’ll only get bluebook value on my vehicle which won’t likely be enough to get a new car. We have a second vehicle but it’s nearly 20 years old, and not reliable in a sense that it can be the main family transportation.
I hate asking for help, but I recognize when I need it. Anything you can do, even if it is just a share, would help out greatly. All donations will go towards insurance deductibles, bills and potentially towards a new (ish) car purchase.
