Hi , my name is Angélique, my son Luc has a rare neuromuscular condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. At the age of 15 he is fully non-ambulant ( in a wheelchair) and requires an adapted vehicle to get around in.

On the 10th of March while James (Lucs' dad) was packing up to come home from camping a tree limb landed on top of the Kia and crushed it. They are so lucky not to have been injured.:)

We had a 2020 Kia Carnival which was modified during the covid lockdowns. Things have changed in the vehicle availability market since then.

We had fantastic vehicle insurance which has paid out the market value of the KIA and will cover most of the modifications. There will be a shortfall which we hope this campaign might help alleviate.

We had already been able to pay this vehicle off and we would prefer not to use our super as we came to Australia later in life and are still playing catch up.

We have the opportunity to have a 2025 Hyundai Staria modified, with production starting in June and lasting around 10 to 12 weeks.

The alternative was to purchase a used car and let them modify it, but the waiting time is 10 months for that which is far too long for us to be without a reliable vehicle.

We have looked at Kia or Hyundai that are around 2 to 3 years old but they are even more expensive than the brand new ones, and this is due to the shortages that were experienced.

The used vehicle market for wheelchair adapted vehicles is full of older cars and, because we need to ensure that Luc has a vehicle for as long as he needs, we want him to have the most reliable one that we can get.

The other options are Japanese imports which do not adhere to the Australian safety standard and are also older models.
