My name is Glen and I’m asking for financial support after surviving a horrible car accident that wasn’t covered by my car insurance. Before my car accident I had just lined up a second job and things were starting to look up for me. After I got off work Sunday, my hardest thought of the day before my accident was accepting that I was okay with working 7 days a week. That that’s what so many of us have to do now to keep a roof over our heads in gas in our cars to work more.

My accident happened around 2pm on March 3rd. I hit black ice while trying to exit the highway. My car flew off the road, flipped, landed upside down in a culvert, and then proceeded to flood. I was trapped in my vehicle while it was filling with water. Fortunately, I had a window breaker in my cigarette lighter and was able to break out of the car after releasing myself from my seatbelt upside down. Even more fortunately, two different vehicles pulled over to help me and a civilian man was already in the water when I escaped. He helped pull me out of the water and saved my wallet from getting washed away. I was taken to the emergency room via ambulance where I had to wait 6 to 7 hours to be seen.

Since Sunday it’s become apparent that my condition is worse than when I was initially evaluated at the emergency room. I can’t walk for very long without getting physically ill due to insane headaches from my concussion. It’s been hard to find words while speaking and concentrate on tasks. My brain is damaged and it terrifies me every time I try to do a task. My whiplash is more substantial because of my hyper mobility. My left shoulder, left elbow, right knee, left glute, and my hips are all injured from the impact trauma.

I don’t know how much money disability will grant me for missing work, or if they’ll grant it at all. I was told my car accident doesn’t qualify for sick leave from my employer that I have 20 something hours of sick leave accrued with and that I can’t use those hours to cover missing work due to this. I’ll have to undergo concussion rehabilitation, physical therapy, acupuncture, and exposure therapy for ptsd. I will also need to buy a bus pass for now and eventually a used car that runs well enough for me to resume all of my work.

In the meantime, I am without income and transportation. I’m looking at missing a minimum of two weeks of work. I need assistance in basic tasks like grocery shopping, picking up medications, and getting to appointments. Anything and everything helps. Thank you for reading.
