Car engine is trashed, need a new car
Donation protected
My name is Joe. I'm a gay trans man living in Michigan, and my car is turbo fucked. We have one car for a household of three people (my brother and my disabled trans husband live with me) and we live in a part of the state with very close to NO public transportation. This car takes me to work, takes all of us to medical appointments, is necessary for groceries and vet appointments, and so on. My husband has a gender-affirming surgery on September 12th and we need a car for that, too.
"What's wrong with your car?" The car we currently have is a 2016 Kia Soul, which we bought used in 2020. And the engine is literally burning the oil and chewing itself up. This is a known defect in that make and model, and if we had bought it new, the replacement would still be covered by the warranty. Since it's used, though... it's not. The cost of a new engine is more than the remainder we owe on the car, and in the meantime the oil problem has gotten so bad that mechanics were literally fishing pieces of metal out of the oil filter. It's going to die, and soon. We don't have long before we don't have a car at all, I can't get to work, and everything we've worked to build in our lives cascades out of control. It really sucks to have a car that looks so new and isn't even fully paid off while knowing that the engine is entirely trashed. We were hoping to finally have a car that would last years past it's payments and not have that debt hanging over us, but here we are!
(I'm not being dramatic--we were finally, FINALLY stable in ways we couldn't have even dreamed of three years ago, and then this was discovered.)
So I'm asking for help. My brother has already helped a generous amount, but ee need 3 thousand more dollars for the down payment on a replacement--the ideal is a new car from Kia so that it will be covered by their warranty for a long, long, LONG time. If I can raise enough for that down payment, the rest of the car payments will be about the same as they are for our current car, and I can afford that.
Thank you for reading all of this, thank you (in advance) for boosting, thank you (in advance) for donating.
