Hello, my name is Angela. I’m a single mom raising my precious special needs son. I’ve never created a GoFundMe before as I’ve always been very independent, strong, one to get things done on my own. I have my precious son who relies on me for everything!

On Feb. 28th, 2018, my mom sadly passed away from Alzheimer’s. On Feb. 28, 2024, mine & my son’s life were forever changed, AT NO FAULT OF OUR OWN. It was a cold, stormy morning. We were on our way to get breakfast at Chick-Fil-A before work when the unthinkable happened. At 6:10am, we were struck by someone who made a poor decision & chose to speed on wet road conditions. I was at a light that turned green, I turned left, had just started to pick up speed when the driver of a white Dodge Durango coming in the opposite direction hydroplaned, went over the center, striking us head on, pushing us into a ditch. Within seconds our world FOREVER changed! I remember not being able to move initially, hearing someone say they thought I had died. The next thing I know I’m pulling my face out of the steering wheel, desperately trying to find the breathe to yell my sweet boy’s name but couldn’t. My glasses were gone, I couldn’t see, could barely breathe, stuck, my head hurt, bleeding, in so much pain & couldn’t hear my son’s voice. My son had managed to get out of the car on his side, falling into the wet, muddy ditch. Bystanders ran over, pulled my son out of the ditch & we’re so kind to stay with him until paramedics arrived (I wish I knew who those bystanders were so I could thank them). My son was hurt throughout several parts of his body. While the paramedics were tending to my son, I was trapped, where it took numerous firefighters to finally reach me after cutting the doors & roof off. I was badly hurt, resulting in a trauma activation. My head was hit, my femur & hip were both split, my knee was damaged, my collarbone, my chest & my stomach. I was instantly taken into surgery, then a few days later rushed into another emergency surgery where I now have a metal rod in my leg, screws as a knee, metal plates & screws in my hip. I stayed in the hospital for 11 days before transferring to a rehab facility where they can hopefully help me learn how to walk, bend, shower, put on clothes, basic life skills, etc.

I was close to having my Ford Escape paid off when this happened. Now, I have no SUV, nothing to drive (when I can drive), to take my son to his appointments & Special Olympic events.

I currently rent a 3-story townhome where I have over 20 stairs. Not only can I not do those stairs, but the bathrooms are not ADA. I’m extremely worried as I have no clue how I’m going to pay rent for now so my special needs son & I don’t end up homeless. I’m desperately needing a 4 bedroom ranch home with no stairs & basically 2 master bedrooms w/ 2 ADA master bathrooms for my son & I before I get discharged.

Not only do I have nightmares about this event, but now I’m extremely worried about all my regular bills, medical bills for my son & I, medicines, no car, learning basic life skills all over again & now desperately needing a 4 bedroom ranch home w/ 2 ADA Master bathrooms.

One day everything was normal then in a split second, our world was forever changed.

Any assistance right now that can be given would mean a great deal to my son & I & would be life changing. I wouldn’t normally do this but I TRULY NEED HELP RIGHT NOW PLEASE. I am now unemployed & I really need help.
