Surgery Recovery Fund for Mama D

My name is Denise Doyle. I'm an artist, teacher, kid-whisperer, event production staff... and mom to an awesome teenager. I am a creative and active person, and I love to dance and swim. On January 4th, 2019 I was in a severe car accident. I had just dropped my teenage son at home, and had just enough time to get to my appointment across town. I recall that I made up my mind to drive safely, even if it meant being a few minutes late. I was slowing down onto an exit ramp, when suddenly out of nowhere, I was rear-ended by what felt like a freight train. A reckless driver hit me going over 70 mph, which spun my car out of control into concrete, and then they hit me again! It was an absolutely terrifying tornado of car, concrete and steel. My car was completely totaled. I was injured, beat up and lacerated by dashboard shrapnel, and in a state of complete disbelief and shock. An ambulance brought me to the ER, where I spent 9 hours in excruciating pain, being treated and tested for my multiple injuries, wound cleaning, stitches... And, I am grateful to be alive! Due to numerous injuries, bruising and trauma, I have barely left my bed without help for almost a month. Both of my legs are hurt. A trip to the doctor is an exhausting ordeal. Pain is a fierce teacher. I am moving slowly from rest and recuperation into rehabilitation. Surgery is likely, and I will require months of physical therapy, as well as sessions with healing practitioners who are not covered by medical insurance. I will undoubtedly need to use crutches or a cane to ambulate for at least several months. The emotional trauma and physical pain have really taken their toll not just on me personally, but my little family as well. Our life has been turned upside down. My son lost his father in a car accident 5 years ago, so this incident was quite scary for him. As a result of this accident, I have lost my livelihood and my ability to work for the time being. All of my jobs required both physical capability and my car. My boyfriend has been an incredibly loving caretaker. He had been developing his online business most recently, but due to my need for round-the-clock care and assistance, he has been unable to work. Fortunately, I am healing. The insurance process will take time. Meanwhile, there are bills to pay, rent due and a teenager to feed… and until settlement is complete, I still have a car payment due for a wrecked vehicle! As there have been more friends and family asking how they can help, I have finally decided to create this funding page. I am humbled by this act, as I’m keenly aware there are so many folks out there struggling with challenging circumstances. That said, money is tight, the need is now, and every little bit really does help us take care of the essentials, keep food on the table and the lights on.
