Car 4 Kali
Donation protected
This fundraiser is for our dear friend and colleague, Kali. After a car accident that has left her injured and unable to work for a month, we have created this fundraiser to help alleviate some of the financial burden of obtaining a car for her.
The car accident in which Kali was rear ended while on her way to care for school gardens has left her with many challenges that continue to take a toll on her well being. Among these include a serious concussion, spinal injuries, post-concussion syndrome, and her car being totaled. Although not at fault for the accident, her '07 Toyota Matrix was old, and she is receiving little compensation for it. She is looking to purchase a decent compact car (ideally hatch-back) with under 100,000 miles that can last more than a couple years. Any leftover funds will help purchase a replacement laptop for the one damage in the accident.
Those who have been around Kali for this experience share that it has been extremely difficult to for her to complete regular daily tasks and get the rest she needs. The effects of the accident continue to strain her mentally, physically and emotionally. Adding to her distress has been the difficulty of securing doctor's appointments, physical therapy, and battling workers' comp and unavailing insurance companies.
Kali is known in the community as a kind, funny, and passionate person, working on food and racial justice here in Springfield and beyond. A recent Hampshire College graduate, she just completed two years of service through FoodCorps with Springfield Public Schools. With student debt and limited income from the two years of FoodCorps service, Kali needs help getting transportation so she can move on to her next professional endeavor.
