Hi everyone,

My name is Robert Wizik. I am a Catholic from London, and my faith has taught me that Lent is not only a time of sacrifice, but a time of love made visible through action.

Last year, during Lent, I undertook a challenge I called My Spiritual Pilgrimage. I committed to walking 744 km, the same distance as the Camino de Santiago, in the UK, while raising funds for the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development.This “pilgrimage” helped me discover my faith in a new deeper meaning. I completed this pilgrimage on Easter Sunday, the very day I was officially received into the Roman Catholic Church. It marked not just the end of a journey, but the beginning of a new responsibility to live my faith outwardly.

This year, I feel called to continue the spirit of almsgiving by turning our eyes beyond what is familiar and comfortable. While many of us in Europe, the USA, Canada, and Australia are blessed with access to healthcare, food, and security, there are communities where even the most basic care is a daily struggle.

I was made aware of a small community of Capuchin Franciscan Friars in Nigeria during a 10pm Rosary Space on X. Through prayer and shared intention, our community learned of the work being done in the Olunde community, where these friars provide essential medical care, preventative health support, and nutritional aid to vulnerable women and children. Their service is offered freely, fraternally, and with deep compassion, rooted in Franciscan values.

What moved me most was not only the work itself, but the way it was revealed to us, through prayer, through unity, and through a community discerning together how best to respond. In a place with so little, there is dignity. In scarcity, there is generosity. In suffering, there is love. This is the Gospel lived in real time.

This Lent, we are choosing not to look away. As a community, we have discerned and decided to help.

We as a Rosary community invited you to walk with us, not necessarily in miles, but in mercy. Your support, whether through prayer, sharing this cause, or donating what you can, will directly sustain this life-giving work.
