Capturing Stories: Join this Journey
Namaste! My name is Enuma Rai. I'm from Buipa Khotang, now based in Lalitpur. I'm a freelance writer, photographer, and documentary filmmaker, devoted to telling unseen and unheard stories—of love and memory, of marginalized voices, indigenous cultures, and the ever-changing environment. Through my lens and words, I seek to honor resilience, preserve heritage, and spark connection.
My father’s passion for photography has been a source of inspiration for me in this journey of storytelling. Diligent practice, willpower, and experiences - individual and in the company of fellow storytellers - have guided me on this journey. To date, I have produced a respectable corpus of documentary films and photo stories.
I am currently working on two intimate and powerful stories. The first is a short documentary film about a young Nepali trail runner and sports coach—a courageous woman who is breaking gender norms and social boundaries to chase her dreams. Her journey reflects the strength of women in rural Nepal and the transformative power of sport.
The second is a photo story series on local markets (haat bazaars) in eastern Nepal. These vibrant community spaces reveal more than commerce—they are living archives of tradition, culture, and everyday life. Through these stories, I aim to document the rhythms of rural life and the cultural richness of our society.
Until now, I have been renting all technical equipment—including cameras, audio gear, and lighting—for every project I work on. This takes up a large portion of the production budget, often leaving no funds for essential aspects like travel, editing, and production.
Telling powerful visual stories requires more than just thought, creativity, and emotion—it also quality technical equipment such as cameras, sound recorders, and lighting to do justice to the depth and dignity of the stories being told. Having these resources allows me to work more freely, sustainably, and with more creative freedom.
These creations are not just art—they are the voice of society, reflections of its core values, and living records of our shared history.
I have received some grants and fellowships for my ongoing projects, but they are not enough to cover all the expenses. So I am requesting your help to complete my project. No amount of your support is small. Even a rupee or a dollar from you will mean a lot. If you are unable to contribute financially, your moral support and encouragement will be invaluable to me.
Your financial contribution will support me in continuing my storytelling journey—helping me purchase essential equipment, cover travel expenses, and manage production costs.
To foster kindness and goodwill in the community, I will be documenting behind-the-scenes glimpses, photos, and progress during the project's construction and sharing regularly via Facebook, Instagram, and email, and sharing with you once the project is complete.
If you want to be a part of the documentary film production in any way possible or have any queries, feel free to write to me at [email redacted]
