Capture the Kite benefitting CASA
Donation protected
The women of the Delta Theta chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta are proud to announce that our 3nd annual “Capture the Kite” tournament will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2016. This tournament, based off the same rules as the game Capture the Flag, will benefit the 8th Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program, Gainesville’s local Court Appointed Special Advocates program. We hope you are as inspired by these brave, inspirational children as we are, and we urge you to help support them in reaching their full potential.
Each day in the United States, 1,900 children become victims of abuse or neglect, and many of them end up lost in the overburdened legal system, never finding a supportive, loving family. That’s where Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) steps in. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children and to make sure they find permanent, safe homes. These volunteers act as a powerful light to guide a child to a caring family, and they empower children by letting their voices be heard. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives. Independent research has demonstrated that children with a CASA volunteer do better in school, spend less time in foster care, and are 50% less likely to return to foster care.
Around 500 students from the UF community are anticipated to participate in this event. The event itself will be a great way for us to give back to this organization and assist the children who benefit from CASA, while also providing UF students with a fun-filled Friday afternoon!
Last year, over $8,000 was raised for this amazing cause, and we hope to go above and beyond that with this year’s event. In order to do so, we are reaching out to our families, friends, and communities in order to reach our goal of raising $10,000.
CASA holds a special place in our hearts, and it would mean the world to us, and the children of CASA, if you can help us in our fundraising goals.
