Captain Mike's recovery & return
Donation protected
When you hear the name "Mike McPheron" I bet you smiled! We all have a funny story, memory or something that makes you happy when you hear his name. He loves to keep us all entertained with his ongoing tales of the adventures that he, his cat Rhiannon, Shadow Puppy, and the mirror go on. Always trying to make sure everyone around him is happy. To know him is to love him, and he definitely has a way of making you feel comfortable, like you've known him forever.
Disneyland is more than a job to Mike, he's very dedicated, and out there he is most known as Captain Mike or Captain. He absolutely loves what he does, especially seeing the look on children's faces when it's their first time there, he wants it to be an experience they'll never forget. He truly goes through it with them, and that's one of the many reasons he's so special and unique. His friends and coworkers say his smile is what they all enjoy seeing. He truly looks forward to his job making "Disney magic" is how he describes it, and has been doing so for the last 16 years.
In early April he had been a no show at work, Facebook which he was very active on had no recent activity for several days, so coworkers, family and law enforcement spread the word through social media and he was found at a local hospital. Apparently was a victim of an attempted mugging, but we're not too clear on details yet, as he is suffering from a severe head injury which could've ended his life.
He now has to relearn how to eat, drink, walk, talk, and even remember things, all while needing round the clock care. He's recently been transferred to a facility where he's doing speech, and physical therapy, along with eating on a food program to regain all the skills he's lost. He's making great strides in recovery, but this has left Mike in a very vulnerable position financially due to his condition, which he will need months of rehabilitation to make a full recovery from.
To make matters worse, we just found out that he has only 3 to 4 weeks left to stay at the place hes in now, rather than the 3 to 4 months we were originally told. He is going to need a full care assisted living place to transfer to, which is not covered by insurance. He also has a copay coming up, and we need to quickly get money to his insurance so he doesn't default through no fault of his own. He's not really talking or aware to the point of being able to handle all of what needs to be handled as it all comes up. We had no idea recovery would be this long, and really aren't sure how much longer it might be. So we're trying to raise money to bridge the gap so he's not faced with huge debt when he's finally back to himself.
We're sure he will just want to put this behind him, and get back to his life. He's a very private person, who doesn't like to worry anyone, and is known to say he's doing great no matter what situation he's going through.
The goal is to raise enough money through donations to help with medical bills (not covered by insurance) lost wages, help to reestablish a new residence for him, and his beloved cat Rhiannon. She is with a close friend of his, and is in need of any donations for food, litter etc. Any amount will help and be greatly appreciated! Please also share this which will help tremendously!
Mike always says to anyone who knows him well, "I can't wait to see what's going to happen next"
Let's try and turn this into a positive experience for the "Captain"
