A couple of summers ago, what seemed like just a nagging pain in the back and legs from normal exercise turned out to be something much worse for our healthy, fit, sweet and loving mom, Rhia.
Just a couple of months later, days after her 55th birthday, our mom was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer.
Having never touched a cigarette in her life, we quickly learned that her lung cancer was a rare-form caused by a fault in a gene called EGFR, most commonly found in asian women.
Being a very private person who rarely asks for help, the majority of her fight has been kept quiet behind the scenes until now. Today, we refuse to stay silent against this unwelcome disease.
A NICU nurse at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children for nearly 30 years as well as a Commander in the Navy Nurse Corps for over 15 years, she has dedicated most of her life to her country and to newborn babies that fight for their lives. She now faces her own fight. This is her comeback.
The funds raised for her comeback fight will go toward all medical treatment expenses and will help to alleviate the financial stress it has put on our mom and family.
We can't express how deeply and forever indebted we are for everyone's continued support and prayers. Our hearts are with everyone and their families who have gone or are going through the same.
