My name is Alanna, and I’m working toward earning my Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) so I can begin a career in the maritime industry.
My goal is to work on tugboats, ferries, and cargo vessels that keep ports moving, guide ships safely through harbors, and transport passengers every day.
Before someone can even apply for these jobs, the U.S. Coast Guard requires several safety and security certifications. I’ve been studying and preparing for these courses so I can take the next step toward working at sea.
I am raising funds to complete the training and credentialing required for my MMC, including courses in maritime safety, firefighting, vessel security, and passenger vessel operations.
These certifications are mandatory before many maritime employers will consider hiring new crew members. Completing them will allow me to begin applying for entry level positions and finally step into the industry I’ve been working so hard to join.
I am currently focusing all of my time on studying and preparing for these certifications. Any support beyond the course costs will help cover basic living expenses such as food, rent, transportation, and caring for my dog Arrow, who is my constant companion through this process.
Every contribution brings me one step closer to beginning my career at sea.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting my journey.
