Captain Larry “LJ” Johnson’s family

Captain Larry (LJ) Johnson, a 20-year veteran of the Summerville Police Department, received a colon cancer diagnosis two years ago and has been courageously fighting the good fight, working full-time while also receiving chemotherapy. LJ is a faithful, proud, humble, and hardworking man who always put duty to our department and our town before himself.

Last week, LJ was admitted to a local hospital for complications arising from his chemo treatments. Last week, he was able to laugh through his pain and share time with command staff members. A day later, he was transferred to the ICU for a deteriorating condition which posed a serious threat to his life and life quality. He remains in ICU.

We are asking for any support you can provide to assist Carla and LJ’s son and daughter through this time to alleviate some of the financial strains that this illness has caused, a prolonged stay in ICU, and additional expenses of travel to and from the hospital, food deliveries to the hospital, etc.

LJ and Carla are proud people and declined an offer to put together this GoFundMe but have since reconsidered as they are both unable to work. We and they thank you for any dollar amount you’d consider donating.

We love you, LJ, Carla, and family and are fighting this with you and keeping you in our most earnest prayers.
