Hello, my name is Lynn. I created this fundraiser to help pay for my husband's cancer treatment.
Ten days after Christmas, on January 5, 2022. My husband, Henry Cohen, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma–the aggressive type. The cancer quickly morphed into a very fast-spreading plasma cell leukemia.
Since late February, when Hershey Cancer Center took over his treatment, Henry received three courses of the strongest possible chemotherapy. He has responded well and is now in preparation for a stem cell transplant, which will take place in early July.
Already the medical bills are coming in, and we owe thousands.
Twelve days before my husband was diagnosed with cancer, just before Christmas, my position at the large non-profit organization (where I had worked as a graphic designer for many years) was eliminated due to the divestiture of some properties. Aside from a small severance pay which has helped keep us afloat for the past six months, our only source of income is a small amount of social security income which does not even cover living expenses––much less tens of thousands in medical bills.
My husband will require 24/7 caregiving for several months during and after stem cell therapy. While I have been sending out "feelers" for employment, Henry will need 24/7 caregiving as he goes through the remainder of his treatment, and I will need to be there with him.
Henry studied for his Coast Guard 25-ton master captain's license in 2020, and worked weekends as a tow-boat captain, towing disabled boats on the Chesapeake Bay. We had hoped to start a weekend sailing charter business to take families sailing this summer, but this dream is now on the shelf indefinitely....
We are deeply grateful for any help.
