This is our Dad. Our hero and inspiration. Captain Fred J Evans III. Last Thanksgiving Dad was playing Tennis with a friend. As he was walking over to pick up a ball he went into cardiac arrest, fell backward and hit the back of his head on the court. Because it looked as if Dad was knocked unconscious from the blow to his head, nobody performed CPR immediately for fear of injuring him further. His brain went without oxygen for 6 minutes. He was then revived and taken to the hospital by paramedics. He spent the next 6 weeks fighting for his life in the ICU at the Northern Virginia Hospital Center. For the first week Dad could not be taken off of life support. He then contracted MRSA and Pneumonia while in the ICU. For a long time it seemed that Dad might not make it but he fought hard and overcame the infections. After that he underwent surgery for a tracheotomy and pacemaker.
Dad has made a miraculous recovery to all his doctors disbelief. His physical body has overcome the trauma but the oxygen deprivation to his brain has left him in need of constant supervision and care. He is now back at home doing well. But now the struggle is putting back together his memories and connecting him to the current moment. Our family and friends have been helping Dad 24 hours a day but due to other life responsibilities we cannot keep up this pace without some outside help. We are asking for your donations in order to help Dad receive home healthcare 24 hours a day and assistance with increasing medical costs and equipment. Our Dad spent his entire life giving everything he had to anyone in need. He never asked anyone for anything and he would not approve of us seeking donations for his healthcare at this time. But Dad needs help beyond our family’s financial means. Please find it in your heart to contribute to our incredible Father's recovery. Our father taught us our greatest talents as can be seen above in the pictures of my brother’s first tennis lesson and my first guitar lesson. Please help us keep our father's wisdom and guidance in our lives. My brother, Garrett Evans, and I Joe Evans, will be forever grateful for your contributions.
