Captain & Slinky Desert Rescues
Donation protected

Meet Captain (fluffly boy approx 1 yr old) and Slinky (little girl who looks like the dog from Toy Story, approx 2 yr old photos below), they are an unlikely pair but are the best of friends and my sweet rescues from Mexico. I recently returned from a two month roadtrip in my 79' Chevy van down the Baja peninsula where I found these two living on the street in a hot desert town. The two of them were clearly underweight, malnourished, and sick. I set up camp for a bit there and fed, loved, and observed them. They didn't have a home, that was for sure, and the community clearly wasn't taking care of them. I watched them get chased away from trash cans they tried to find food scraps in, and approached aggressively by anyone that even acknowledged their existence. They looked after eachother and were always at the other's side anytime I saw them. Slink actually wouldn't eat until she saw Captain finish the food I'd give them. I knew I needed to take them with me, and with how bonded they are, there was no option to only take one.
So on we went, back up to the border and into San Diego where I am currently staying.
I need some help getting them the proper care they need. I've exhausted what money I did have on the care I've been able to provide them thus far- which is top-of-the-line nutrient rich dog food to get their weight up (Captain has gained 10 lbs since I met him and Slink gained 4, initial checkup/vet visit to get their first round of shots that they should have gotten as puppies, and testing for heartworms and other blood-related illnesses. The results came back positive for heartworms for Captain and positive for ehrlichia which is another blood related disease that they both have. Both of the stages of these illnesses are just early enough that I can do something about it if I act fast.
I need help raising money to pay for the antibiotics for ehrlichia for them both, and the extensive treatment Captain will have to do for his heartworms. ANY amount is helpful and so greatly appreciated. These dogs have quickly become my best friends and I'm doing everything I can to give them a better life. They've suffered enough in their lives, I just need a little help providing them comfort, as I get back on my feet as well. Thank you so much for anything you can do to help us!
