This family of 6 was hit with life changing news in 2017 when their then 16 year old, Nick, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, which is bone cancer. Fast forward to January 2018 and he was given a clean bill of health. In October 2018 at his 9 month check up, things went downhill fast. His cancer came back and also spread to his lungs. The family had to make an emergency decision to amputate his entire left arm and shoulder. Nick is currently relearning how to function with only one arm. This past Monday, 12/10/18, Nick had another surgery to remove the cancer from lungs. He will then go through another 6 months of chemo. The doctors want to try a new treatment on Nick that their insurance may not cover but will give him the best chance of survival. The day after Nick’s lung surgery, his mom, Angela, got a call that her father was rushed to the hospital and wasn’t going to make it through the night. He passed away that same night. Now the family has to not only continue moving forward with Nick’s treatment, they also have to plan a funeral.
