Capital Campaign for a Generator

Our shelter houses over 150 cats and kittens on any given day. We also have a high volume spay/neuter clinic. It's the very beginning of summer and it's already scorching outside. We are fundraising for a generator that will power all 3 buildings at our facility. Last week our power went out during a thunder storm. We not only had 35 spay/neuter surgeries scheduled, but it was close to 90 degrees outside. Luckily, the power came back on 3 hours later, but the temps in our cat areas were already over 80 degrees and we had to relocate our surgeries to our mobile clinic, which was no small feat.

This wasn't the first time we had to pivot because of a power outage. During the freeze a couple of years ago, our power was out for 4 days. We had to use tiny generators to run space heaters and it was difficult to find gas to run them. It wasn't the safest arrangement, but it was all we had.

We basically lose power almost every time we have a storm that is more than a sprinkle. Hurricane season is upon us, as well. We have been lucky since we've been in our new building and haven't had any major storms, but in the event of even a tropical storm we could be without power for days.

A generator will not only ensure the safety of our cats during a power outage, it will give peace of mind to all of the humans that have to worry about our cats and the staff during extreme temperatures.

The Cattery offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats. From there, we seek permanent, loving homes for the kitties. In addition, our organization promotes public awareness regarding the value of animals and their welfare, the dangers of pet overpopulation, and the benefit of quality human-animal companionship.
