CAPE League is a DC-based, year-round, all-encompassing program created to integrate the lives of young people in the DC metro area with great opportunities that will influence them positively. The program is presented by Powerful Beyond Measure - a volunteer based, grassroots organziation. CAPE Is an inclusive program - opening our doors to children to all children, those with or without special needs, those who have behavioral or emotional challenges, those in traditional families or foster care, those of all income levels. We believe all children should have access to role models, experiences. education, opportunity and resources that will enrich their lives and grow their future. Plus, we try to provide a support system of their peers and volunteers to create a base they can rely on throughout their youth!
In June 2016, this program will celebrate our 10 year anniversary. In celebration of this, the organization has planned to take the youth of this program on its first retreat. This will take place during Spring Break, the last week of March.
The program aims to give youth diverse experiences and have them travel to open their minds to places outside of the DC metro area. In 2014, CAPE League took students on a week-long college tour for Spring Break. They visited 8 HBCUs in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. They ended the trip with a day of outlet shopping and fun trip to Universal Studios. Members also went to New York last December, which will have been our 7th trip to NY in our nine year history. We have taken them for their entreprenuership project, Broadway shows, a visit to learn about how magazine our operated at Essence, a trip to learn the business of football at the NFL headquarters, and other experiences. We have been to other locations to show the kids the world!
For the CAPE Retreat we planto take the kids to the Bay Area in California (San Francisco/Oakland). We will engage in all parts of C.A.P.E.
Community & Civic Involvement: The kids will visit a local shelter that houses families and teens. They will create gift bags or personal and school supplies to deliver to youth who are there
Arts, Entertainment and Sports: The kids would like to take in a graffiti art class and learn about the culture of the art in the Bat area
Personal Development: The kids will engage in four sessions that will double as development workshops, bonding opportunities, and open-talk sessions. Two as a whole group, one geared for the girls and one geared for the boys
Educational and Professional Development: We will visit 1-2 universities while we are there and visit a business in the Bay area.
As an extra special treat, the kids will have a special host - Oakland Raider and PBM supporter, Lorenzo Alexander!

We ask for your support. CAPE League uses every bit of funding to provide activities and programming for the youth. For this trip, we have limited funding. Though we hope to include every child - the amount of fund we raise determines if that is possible. Help us bring every child out to enjoy a once ina lifetime experience!
