Hello Friends and Family, I am really sorry to bother everyone, but I really need your help. Two of my adult cousins really been dealt a horrible hand. The apartment which they lived in after their mom passed-away went on fire and they lost everything. Unfortunately there was no apartment insurance. They lived with an Aunt for a while, but we're asked to leave because of their cat, which has since died. The Aunt made it clear that she doesn't want anyone in her home. They were trying to live in hotel rooms until they could return to their apartment. However, because their apartment was rent-controlled, the apartment management company refused to let them move back-in in order that they could rent to someone else and charge more money. One is disabled due to Autism and is unable to provide funds towards rent. The other has exhausted all her funds paying for hotel rooms, meals, toiletries, as well as paying for the services of an attorney to try to get her apartment back, which was to no avail. She has been working and makes decent money, however, it goes very quickly because they are purchasing 3 meals a day for two grown adults, bus fares, and every few days she pools enough money together to stay at the YMCA to sleep and shower. Otherwise, they are SLEEPING ON THE STREETS. You read it correctly! They are homeless. In order to get a place to live, they need to save enough money for a month's rent and a month's security. We all know how very expensive apartments can be. The problem is, there is no way that she could save enough money for rent and security because everything she makes in one day right now is being spent just as quickly. If the first month's rent and security were taken care of, she would be able to continue with monthly payments and other bills on her own. I had not seven them since 1977, but we became friends on Facebook recently. I read some of her posts and realized there was something wrong. I wrote to her to find out what was wrong, and she told me. I had very mixed feelings because I didn't know if she was a whack or someone I could trust. I decided to meet-up with them near the Staten Island Ferry terminal so I could assess the situation. Well, let me tell you that I haven't stopped crying. These two people are sweet, kind, intelligent, and some what innocent. They try so hard to stay nice and clean and groomed, and not appear homeless. They carry their belongings along with them. I mentioned their horrible story to a co-worker. A little while later, she came up to me and gave me $100 to put towards their rent and security. So, I am hoping that all of you will find it in your heart to follow my friend Annette's lead and help me raise money to pay for the first month's rent and security. I will collect the money and personally hand it over to the landlord. From there-on, it will be up to her o continue monthly rent payments. No one ever thinks they will lose their home, but disasters of one kind or another happen every day. Please send me a message if you feel you can help. God bless you and lots of love, Linda
