Capable Of Spring - a new album by Nanci Ahern

The Story

In my life, I have been many things in the arts: an actress, dancer, and clown - a playwright and choreographer - but always a musician, a singer and a song-writer.

Music was at the core of my family growing up in Halifax - my father was a pianist and organist and choir director, my mother sang, my brothers played guitar and bass, my sister and I belonged to the school glee club and church choir. There was always music in our house! My older siblings went before me into the music business - brother Brian as a guitarist and producer, sister Aileen as a jazz singer.

Their success encouraged and educated me.

Along the sometimes arduous road of my artistic vocation, music has always sustained me - as my inspiration, my friend, my happiness, good medicine, and authentic connection to life.

You may have heard my work on my first release “Radiance and Fire”, or in my former appearances with Stringband on the “Maple Leaf Dog” album. My new CD “Capable of Spring” celebrates recovery and renewal with ten of my new original songs, including a reprise arrangement of my well-known song for Nova Scotia “Root Like a Rose” first recorded with Stringband, and covered beautifully by Emmylou Harris - the first song I ever wrote! Also on this CD is a song very dear to my heart - “It All Comes Down to This”. It was born out of the year I spent dealing with cancer in 2019.

This recording was created in Toronto at Canterbury Studio with most excellent producer Danny Greenspoon, and a band of wonderful and incredibly versatile Toronto musicians who were a joy to work with - it has been the best and truest experience of my life, and produced a rich, multi-faceted work of which I am very proud!

The recording part of the process is finished, financed by my own funds - but my budget has turned out to be short of the amount needed to launch the release. With your support, I’ll be able to complete the final stage of manifesting my music. My goal is to release “Capable of Spring” by the end of June 2022.
