Canolfan Cothi Autism Specialist Provision Ysgol Bro Dinefwr

Hi my name is Dan and I will be completing the Penmaenmawr Fell Race in the North of Wales on the 16th November. I will be raising funds for the Autism Specialist Provision in Bro Dinefwr School (Canolfan Cothi), to transform their blank Canvas of a garden into a variety of different areas :

• An Enterprise Garden area to help pupils learn about growing fruit and vegetables, harvesting, and selling produce, which will also play a vital role in their accreditation. 

• A Sensory Story and Garden area to develop pupils's Language, Literacy and Communication skills and a space for Expressive Arts activities, which are core elements of the Cothi Curriculum. This area will also include a variety of plants for pupils to interact with through touch, smell, and sight.

These areas will benefit all pupils at Canolfan Cothi in a holistic way, meeting both their educational and wellbeing needs.

The race itself will be taking me out of my comfort zone, as some of you know. I do enjoy running and have been training a lot in 2023/2024. But this race involves a gruelling 10 mile fell course up and over a mountain, through bogs and streams with an ascent of almost 600m. What I haven't been able to prepare for is the temperamental changes in weather and high altitude in potentially full kit. I am expecting the worst due to the time of year.
