GoFundMe donations will support precedent-setting lawsuit in the District of Columbia by Josefa Ippolito-Shepherd, to set effective limits on involuntary exposure to second and thirdhand smoke (tobacco and marijuana) by neighbors of smokers. This lawsuit is the first of its kind in DC and one of the first in the country that forces smokers to contain their smoke within their property and not letting their neighbors to be exposed thereof: (1) Judgment/Findings of Fact & Conclusions of Law, 5 June 2023, DCSC Case #: 2020-CA-004616-B and (2) Memorandum Opinion and Judgment, 16 October 2025, DCCA Case #:23-CV-0906). The lawsuit was managed on a Pro Se basis (no lawyer was hired) and the GoFundMe funds will be utilized only to reimburse the Plaintiff for expenses associated with the case, not counting compensation for her time as an advocate.
