Hello! Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this post. This fundraiser has been created to gather funds to support Canela’s Emergency Spinal Surgery and her Rehabilitation/Physical Therapy expenses. As some may know, medical procedures can be extremely costly for animals.
On 02/19/2023, Canela went on her usual morning walk with no problems or concerns. A few hours later, Canela had lost all mobility and sensation in her lower body, including her two back legs. It was all very sudden, and within the span of a few hours, Canela was no longer able to walk on her own. Canela was rushed to the nearest emergency hospital but was quickly redirected to a different emergency hospital, as her condition was time sensitive and required specialty care from a Neurologist. Canela was kept overnight, where various exams and procedures were conducted (i.e., MRIs, blood work, pain relief medication, etc.). On 02/20/2023, Canela underwent Emergency Spinal Surgery. She remained hospitalized for 9 days to monitor her vitals and ensure she was receiving appropriate post-op care. Canela was given a 50/50 chance of walking on her own again.
Thankfully, Canela has been home for a few weeks now, where she continues to heal and recover–in recent weeks, her spirits have been high, and she remains just as food motivated as always! She is slowly regaining some mobility (slight tail wagging) and sensation. However, she is still unable to walk, stand, or relieve herself on her own, as the nerve damage completely affected the functions in her lower body. Canela has a long road to recovery, with physical therapy being administered at a local rehabilitation center and with the help of her parents at home. Canela’s surgery, numerous procedures, exams, medications, aftercare, and physical therapy have continued to add up significantly. Canela and her parents truly appreciate any support, including sharing this page with others. Thank you so much!
Canela is the sweetest, 3-year-old bulldog mix who loves people and other dogs and lets out occasional snorts to tell you when she is happy. She was adopted approximately 2 and a half years ago and has brought so much joy to her parents, friends, doggie neighbors, and many others.
