Hello Friends,

Many of us know, as soon as you walk into Magnolia, the first of anyone to greet you is Canela, running up, galloping with conviction, to lick and shower you with love. Our favorite Sonoma winery canine mascot, there to inspect the fruit, and loyally follow in Jack’s shadow.

She has also been my first and dearest sidekick here, at times I felt I had no one but her, she was ridin’ durty in my back seat, putting in those vineyard hours so I wasn’t alone, chasing jack rabbits and smiling, reminding me why I loved being lost among the vines too.

Our hearts break to share the news that on March 16th, our sweet Canela girl was hit by a car on Highway 12, just outside the Oak Hill farm property in Sonoma; by a car that drove off nonetheless. A living nightmare all of us dog owners perpetually fear, which became a reality for Jack.

Miraculously, she survived the shocking ordeal, however, after many hours in the hospital, she ultimately lost the fight to save her right front leg. They amputated her leg from the shoulder down, and also her entire tail due to blood loss. She returned home, on March 20th, as a "tripod.”

Canela is home with Jack and Saskia, recovering and surrounded by love. But we have a long road ahead to get our 3-year-old pup walking safely and learning how to navigate life as a new forelimbed tripod, which is more challenging than losing a hind leg.

Your generous donations will go directly to her emergency vet bills and rehab program with a trainer, building ramps at home and the winery, soft stairs and non-slip padding in the house. We will need help with homecare for these first few months.

This is uncharted territory for all of us and we want to find the best guidance and nutrition to keep her lean and fit, one of the most important factors to stave off osteoarthritis and have a healthy, happy, longer life.

Jack is the one-man core of the Sonoma winemaking community for so many of us, dedicated and always there to bring generous support through harvest and beyond. Here is our chance to show our support to Jack + Canela, who always stand loyal to their community.

We know, with endless care, love, and training, our faithful Canela, reigning Queen of Magnolia, will soon go back to enjoying her sunbathing, grassy romps, and chasing balls with friends.
