Hi y’all! Candice here. Some of you know my story, but for those that don’t: In December 2021 I was diagnosed with a very rare, very aggressive form of cancer called Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) and given 6 months to live. Well, here I am, almost 5 years later having defied the odds thanks to a clinical trial, MANY, MANY rounds and types of chemotherapy, radiation and a liver resection. I was cancer free for a glorious 6 months until my cancer came back pretty aggressively. We started more chemo and more radiation and things stabilized, so last November 2025, my doctors and I started the conversation of a liver transplant. And guess what? Here we are, September 2026, and I am weeks away from a liver transplant! Some of you know her, some of you don’t, but my incredible sister Stephanie has graciously decided to donate 60-70% of her liver to me to save my life. This is my best chance at being cancer free and living a long, full life. She’s unbelievable, and to say I’m thankful would be the understatement of my life. This has been an incredibly long road full of so many ups and downs, but I have tried my best to enjoy every moment I’ve been given in this time I wasn’t supposed to have. I have traveled with friends, been there for soccer games and gymnastics meets, got to meet a niece I didn’t think I’d be around to meet, watched my mom become the happiest she’s ever been, and even traveled to Italy with Steph for 10 days - a trip that I can say changed both of our lives. Cancer is a beast. It is unforgiving and violent. But it’s also a lesson. And sometimes I hate the whole “let’s find the silver lining in the storm”, but cancer has taught me to do that- even when I didn’t want to. I know just how precious life is in a way healthy people don’t. How you should cry the happy tears, laugh so loud people stare, take risks, say yes and listen when your nephew says “come see the sunset, it’s so beautiful!”. Because it is. Every minute of this life is a gift, and thanks to Steph, I will hopefully have many more 525,600 minute years to measure my life in love. I want to thank you all for your love, support, and kindness throughout this experience. I would’ve never gotten to where I am without the prayers, vibes and good energy sent my way. Thank you for donating to help make this transplant possible and as stress free as it can be, and thank you for giving me the gift of helping us save my life. I love you all. You are the reason I’ve kept going, and will keep on keeping on. Every one of you gets my love, my gratitude and every good thought I can possibly send your way. ❤️
