In May 2015, Candice was diagnosed with Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Cervix (NEO). NEO is a rare and aggressive disease. Treatment for NEO is usually more intensive than that for most other types of cervical cancer, and therapy often utilizes multiple different modalities such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
There are several differences between neuroendocrine and other types of cervical cancer, in prognosis, diagnosis and treatments. Because of the rare nature of the disease, clinical trials for NEO are lacking. NEO tumors account for only 2% of all cervical cancers.
Candice completed chemotherapy and radiation for NEO in November, 2015 and all scans were clear until last week.
On Tuesday July 26, 2016 Candice went for a scheduled routine scan. It was confirmed then that her NEO (Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Cervix) had spread to her lungs and possibly her brain. She is going tomorrow (8/3/16) for a brain scan and will know for sure next week if it has spread to her brain or not. The doctor confirmed again that this rare cancer spreads quickly and will need to be treated as aggressively as possible.
As you all can imagine and feel for yourselves this news is devastating especially for Candice, Joey, and their 2 boys Michael and David.
A real soul shaker to say the least!
To add to the above is the financial stress of current and ongoing doctor visits and treatments. As of Friday July 29, 2016, Candice is no longer able to work and has lost medical benefits for her and her two children. The family is researching alternative insurance options (i.e. Cobra, etc.) that will assist with coverage from this point forward, however, all of these options come with a hefty price tag. We are working as quickly as possible to find a financial solution, but Candice and her family need our support!
At this point, Candice and her family are also consulting doctors and researching ALL options of treatment and/or therapies to provide her with the greatest outcome and best quality of life.
As a family, extended family, amazing group of friends, and support team Candice needs our help!
Time really isn't on our side. Candice needs our help today and needs treatment/therapies to happen ASAP.
